All the essentials are here and a lot more, but there are no shopping centers, fast food restaurants, or chain stores. Be sure to visit our island’s unique, locally owned shops and galleries – the local art is inspiring. The seafood is the freshest around whether you catch it yourself, buy it at one of the local seafood shops, or have it prepared by talented chefs in one of our outstanding local restaurants.
While you’re here be sure to visit magical Springer’s Point Nature Preserve. Walk through the pristine maritime forest and end up along a sandy beach on Pamlico Sound. Tune in to our local community radio station, WOVV, 90.1 FM, for local news, music and a great variety of locally produced shows. Enjoy the abundance of local musical talent, try parasailing over the sound, charter one of the local boats, or take an excursion to Portsmouth Island – there’s so much to explore and experience. We encourage you to also investigate other opportunities for local enrichment and involvement during your stay and, of course, to come back as often as you can.
