Escape Hatch was great. It was clean, cozy, and a little bit rustic in an old beach cottage kind of way. We loved the screened-in porch and the crow’s nest. We would definitely stay there again.

Escape Hatch was a great house and a great location and provided plenty of supplies for me. The fact the weather was perfect from start to finish didn't hurt!

The house and location were great. Ocracoke is a delight. We loved staying there. The only problem was a combination of poor internet service and ROKU TVs. We never got the upstairs TV to work and the one downstairs was spotty at best, as was routine Internet activity such as texting photographs. To be fair, we did not try contacting anyone about it.

Escape Hatch was wonderful! It took us back in time and reminded us of our childhood at grandmas house. We loved the screened porch and it’s secluded feel from everything. The kitchen had all the necessary items for making meals and the dining table was perfect for nightly family games. We loved the lookout deck off of our room. It was amazing for the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets!! You could see the entire island. We are looking forward to booking with OIR again next year!!!

House was very dated, which we knew from the photos, however, there were furniture/items that just needed to be replaced they were so damaged/old or dirty. The space of the house was great, if some minor updates are made I think this would be a great place to stay again.

Good place to stay on Ocracoke with pets
This cottage was exceptionally clean and was great for a week at the beach with our dog. The furniture was not the most comfortable, but you don't have to worry about getting it dirty or the dog jumping up on it. The kitchen had what we needed, and the location was convenient to the village, just a short bike ride. The beach was a short drive or a longer bike ride. We enjoyed sitting on the top deck in the late afternoon.

July 2016 Stay
The Escape Hatch rental more than met our expectations. We loved the open floor plan, the enormous screened in porch, and the views from the roof top deck. Located a short bike ride from the village, we rarely used our car. Our dogs loved morning walks to Oyster Creek for a swim in the sound. Great times!
