This ever-popular growing event celebrates the time-honored art of decoy carving. Decoy displays, carving presentations, raffles, and food. The Ocracoke Island Decoy Carvers Guild presents the event.

The theme for 2022 Portsmouth Homecoming is Portsmouth Rises. The National Park Service and Friends of Portsmouth Island have done a lot of work to save the village after Hurricane Dorian. Jim White, a descendant of inhabitants of Portsmouth, will emcee the program. Memorabilia will be for sale, and a potluck will occur on the grounds. Find out more here.

Join us for Ocracoke’s Run Fest Weekend, featuring a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon. Routes will pass by Silver Lake Harbor, the Ocracoke Lighthouse, and historic streets.

May 13
The British Cemetery Ceremony and reception commemorates the sinking of the H.M.T. Bedfordshire off the coast of Ocracoke in 1942 with the loss of all hands by the German submarine U-558. The bodies of four British sailors washed ashore and are buried in the British Cemetery on Ocracoke. Representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, British Royal Navy, Canadian Royal Navy, and Ocracoke High School students participate in the annual ceremony.
