Summer is approaching and school is ending. To give you some exciting ideas for summer fun, we thought it would be a great idea review some of the most fun things to do with kids on Ocracoke Island. In this post, we review many of the best family activities on Ocracoke Island. During the last days of school, a blog about fun things for kids seems fitting!
Swimming, making sand castles, surfing, boogie boarding, there are endless things to do on the beach. Pack a lunch, with plenty of water, or plan to have an evening bon fire (permit needed) with s’mores and hot dogs. Don’t forget to wear lots of sunscreen!
Clamming, fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking, and much more can be done in the sound. Boat rentals and jet skis are available for rent as well. On the days the beach is a little windier the sound side can be calm and flat making it as equally enjoyable as a day at the beach.
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore offers ranger-led programs throughout the summer. The events can be found on their website and include various programs such as All About Sea Turtles, Crabbing with a Ranger, Ocracoke After Dark, Pirates, and others.
Children will love the mid-week, usually on Wednesdays, Create-a-Craft program. At the end of the program, each child will leave with a handmade island souvenir. The museum does these craft sessions in season, and are $5 per craft.
Who doesn’t love ice cream, snowballs, or smoothies? To stay cool while out and about around the island try out these great spots: The Sweet Tooth, Candyland at the Ocracoke Station, The Slushy Stand, Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar, Hang 10 Smoothies, Ocracoke Coffee Co., Ocracoke Fudge and Ice Cream Shop, and Frost Bites.
