The first-ever Ocracoke Red Drum Shootout will take place on September 21, 2024. Organized by locals and friends of Ocracoke, this event will be an annual fundraiser. The Ocracoke Red Drum Shootout is a nonprofit and will be under the 501(c)(3) umbrella of the Ocracoke Foundation for its first year. Each year, a committee will choose a project or organization to receive the proceeds. For 2024, the funds will go to the Ocracoke Working Watermen’s Association to support their education and outreach efforts, and for the ongoing preservation and renovation of the Ocracoke Seafood Company, the island’s last remaining fish house.
